Last night (Friday), I couldn't convince anyone to go to We Love House, so ended up at Hideout with Chad, Edwin, Tom and Gillian. Good times. We played many card games, discussed art and writing, enjoyed funk & soul and chilled house, and I got very flattering comments about my writing. Flattering not because it was overly-indulgent, but accurate. Gillian noticed the details, and knew all the stuff I wrote were actually things that happened. We talked about fictitious/imaginative poetry, and tried to explain why I could never bring myself to write about things that never happened. It was really interesting. She also made me confront a question I never thought of for the Wake poem. Why tar on the walls? Because my dad used to be a chainsmoker, and the report said he went away due to a heart attack. That's why it "clings like tar on walls". Drank, ate, made merry. It was a good night. I think I saw Scarlett Ting (local blogger, but I can't be sure. If she was at Hideout last night, she's got a damn foxy smile. No wonder need to photoshop!)

Today I met up with Cyril, and he passed me a book. Then we went to Kino to buy somemore books, and had lunch at Toast. Then we headed down to TCC at Cine, and another round of tea and cakes. Cute waitress there called Hui Jun. Look out for her :) This kind of girl, I likeee. It was really enjoyable, just talking and gossiping and smart-quipping one another.

Then Jonah came, 45 mins late. He claimed someone pressed the panic button on the train at Outram. London paranoia brought over. They shot a South American man who was wearing a padded overcoat in a tube station. Unloaded 5 rounds into him even though they weren't sure. Paranoia is fear in its most raw form. I don't think they found any bombs on him.
We played pool at Monstercue, nice to know the uncle still remembers me. :) All those hours weren't wasted. Nice man, that uncle. I saw two instances of young, underaged girls drinking Tiger. It was 5pm, on a Saturday afternoon. They look like they thought it was very cool. Tiger beer with a swollen-bollocks swagger. I don't know.
We then watched Downfall, a really heavy movie that was very revisionist in nature. It was a blow-by-blow account of the last days of Hitler, just before the surrender. Very... mortal? We see a really human side to Hitler and all his close aides. The Berlin version of wartime devastation. Very sad story, Jonah joked about losing count of the people who died in the movie. I cried a lot during the movie. People and their versions of reality... and their willingness to sacrifice life to maintain subcription to ideals long hollowed out. Like stepping firmly, desperately, on termite-ridden logs. It was so depressing, dinner was a sombre affair.
Both needed a beer after the movie, so headed down to Acid Bar. Talked about the impending Uni life, and how we were 'Young men sitting in an old man's bar, waiting for his turn to die". Yes, I gave him the "I-feel-so-old" treatment. I then proposed we learn the Seasons Of Mists quote, and recite it before every beer we drink from now one. Like how we used to recite the SAF 7 Core Values before water parade: "Loyalty To Country, Leadership, Discipline blah blah..."
This is the quote, and I shall learn it by heart, as a toast for every beer we drink.
"To absent friends, lost loves, old gods, and the seasons of mists; and may each and every one of us always give the devil his due."
